2020 has been a tough year for many and at Forest Digital we have had our challenges but our year has been made so much smoother by our incredible fabric-printing machine Epson’s Monna Lisa Evo Tre. Our state-of-the-art printer enables us to digitally print textiles accurately, beautifully and with minimum impact on the environment.

The Monna Lisa hails from Como, the Italian district renowned for its century-old high-quality silk manufacturing tradition. Here, in the early noughties,  a partnership between electronics company Epson, machine manufacturers Fratelli Robustelli and ink innovators For. Tex led to the creation of the Monna Lisa – a digital fabric printer that revolutionized textile printing, fabrics, and the fashion world.

Perfect Print

Since then the machines have been constantly updated, increasing their speed and productivity so that the fabrics printed on a Monna Lisa are flawless. Most of the world’s famous high fashion brands have their fabrics printed on a Monna Lisa – no other machine in the digital fabric printing industry comes close. But it’s not just well-established and world-renowned fashionistas that benefit from the Monna Lisa, it’s also small emerging brands as the machine is not just perfect for large-scale, high-speed production but it can also produce small run on-demand sample printing.

Precision Core Technology

Using Epson precision core technology in the print heads, this printer produces a high quality, perfectly defined print and works individually with each type of fabric from silks to satins, cotton, stretchy fabrics, and more besides. It’s also super quick – the machine works swiftly and accurately in a short time frame – days rather than months – so that lead times are down and designers can receive their fabric quickly.

Printing that doesn’t harm the environment

Really importantly, the machine has significant benefits for our precious environment. It saves water – up to 75% more than other printing methods and uses only 40% of the energy usually needed – more than halving the carbon footprint of fabric printing. Plus there’s a huge reduction in the use of chemicals both before and after the fabric is printed. We are not producing fabrics that poison the planet – however beautiful fabric looks, it is ugly to us if it damages our world.

The modern, earth-friendly way that the Monna Lisa works with inks is also really impressive. The inks are vacuumed packed and applied with high pressure so that not one drop is wasted.  Multi inkjets offer an infinite array of colours allowing designers to create their unique designs with no colour limitation so they never have to compromise on creativity.

Most importantly, we use solvent-free water-based inks that carry the prestigious OEKO-Tex Standard 100 certificate. This certification guarantees that our inks do not contain harmful substances, going beyond national and international standards to protect the environment. Our inks have also been approved by ECOCERT, a certifier for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. And, last but not least, we are approved by bluesign® as a sustainable textile producer, this means our final textile product meets very stringent consumer safety requirements worldwide and proves to the consumer that they are acquiring a sustainable product.

During bidirectional printing, symmetrical colour alignment guarantees that the colour overlap order is maintained. As a result, colour and pattern reproduction is extremely consistent, allowing even sections of solid colour and delicate geometric patterning to be displayed nicely while retaining high throughput.

Monna Lisa Evo Tre has established a reference standard for high-quality printing in sectors like haute couture & fast fashion, accessories, home textiles, and sportswear, as well as a brand representing Epson industrial digital textile printers. It’s the perfect choice for a more dynamic market that demands quick reactions to changing needs. It’s characterized by the flexibility and productivity that digital technology is known for.

Monna Lisa’s adaptability is one of her most valuable characteristics. It provides users with a single printer that can handle a wide range of manufacturing requirements. It works with a variety of inks, prints on a variety of fabrics, and reproduces even the most complicated patterns with unmatched quality, speed, and reproducibility. Inks are sold in colour racks with varying capacity and the ability to switch ink types.
Monna Lisa is also available in a variety of configurations, with the number of print heads and printing widths varying.

All of these eco-credentials, and the quality of our stunning products, are possible because of our wonderful digital fabric printing machine.
